I bought two 1 1/2 inch PVC shutoff valves from Ace, to plumb a hot tub. I glued them in place with the new type Gorilla Glue, no primmer or cleaner needed, they say. All went well yesterday, today both of the shutoff valves are leaking dead center on the bottom of the valve, they are both defective.

One shutoff valve is in a really hard to get to place and will take me hours to change out. The bad thing is that PVC fittings is glued into the one that is screwed directly into the pump. That fitting can not be bought at any hardware store as it is a special fitting that came with the pump.

It will take a week or so for the new fitting to get here. I have seen on youtube that PVC pipe can be removed from a fitting with heat and a pair of pliers.
Have any of you ever tried that, will it damage the fitting?

I've never had luck with PVC valve. Use threaded brass ball valves with PVC male adapters. And I always use separate primer and cement.

Jim, there is a cutting bit called ' ram bit' that will easily cut a pipe out of a fitting---

But I do not know if it would cut out a valve end from a fitting.

Those bits are only for getting the pipe out of the fitting. Not saving the pipe like Jim wants to.

RJ, I won't have anything to do with a PVC valve again either.

Mike, the the second and third video shows removing pipe from a fitting with heat. I really don't have a lot to loose trying it with heat except for several hours replacing all that is messed up right now.

I have a Bosch heat gun I think will work. The only thing I want to save is the fitting that screws onto the pump and a Tee that the shutoff is glued into, I don't care about the valve, Ace will give me two other valves and they won't be PVC. LOL
