In poor judgement, I used a steam carpet cleaner on area rug which has removed the finish from my oak wood floors under the rug in several 8" spots. Is it possible to refinish just the damaged areas, or the whole 5x7' area without having to refinish the entire floor? Floor is utherane coated oak 8 years old in fair shape (prev homeowner had 3 kids and 3 dogs). I'd like to avoid having to have the entire floor prof refinished as is a huge area (approx 1500 sq ft). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If it has been 8 years since the floor was finished the best way to fix the problem is to have the entire floor screened and recoated. This is much cheeper than refinishing. It will fix the problem.
