Hello all,

I have what i would call a minor scratch in my car dash that I'd like to fix. It's only a surface scratch in the lacquer (I think it's lacquer anyway), but very noticeable.

It's pretty thin and a few inches in length. I am fairly sure it is only on the surface and does not reach the actual wood.

How would you go about fixing a scratch like this?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hard to make out what that is. You mentioned wood, is this a piece of wood or fake wood with a clear coating over it? If the scratch is so shallow that all it does is break the gloss of the coating, then all you need to do is polish it away. I would very carefully use a plastic polish to do that, which you can get at car places like PEP Boys or Advance Auto, etc.

On the other hand if it is deep enough to feel, or to catch your fingernail on, this would work but be less effective. A more complete fix would require you to refill the scratch with new material, probably lacquer, and then sand and polish it back to flat.
