Hello,

My textured plaster ceiling was cut in with paint by accident. I think the paint will be too heavy and the detail of the plaster effect lost. Obviously I can't get it all off but am wondering if some of it can be removed, washed or thinned out so to speak, so the rest of the ceiling can be done with a thinned wash of paint stippled on instead, in order to retain the hand-plastered finish.

Thanks,

Sandy

Sandy, don't worry so much. Paint will decrease details, but after many, many years of numerous coats of paint. If a mistake was made, don't make it worse. But, if you're determined, you'll need a solvent that can reduce dried latex, either denatured alcohol or Goof Off. Be gentle, and clear your schedule.

Thanks. I tried a damp rag but it was really set/absorbed. They painted the whole thing and it looks good. Not the natural hand plastered look of before but the color is right and it looks nice. Oh well. I broke my neck hand finishing that thing meself years ago.
