How to remove faucet handle

Hi!

How do you go about removing the handle on the faucet in this picture?

One would think the little caps on the handles would pop off, but they didn't. I just used my fingernail and it's like they couldn't lift off. I didn't want to try a screwdriver before checking here to see if anybody has any hints.

You may need to apply a bit of force to get the lower part to move; it may be stuck with corrosion, deposits, etc...Try one of those rubber jar openers or something that won't scratch the lower part (rotate ccw).

Congrats! Strap wrench use is rarely needed but when it is, nothing beats them.
