Hello,

Does anyone know how to correctly measure sliding patio doors?

We are located in Florida if that matters in anyway. We are looking to replace our current patio sliding door "pocket doors as they go inside the wall" with new hurricane impact ones.

I've searched google for how to measure them and no one seems to know.

Thanks if anyone knows!

Here are pictures of what it looks like and inside the door between wall. Thanks!

P.S. We are going with Jeld Wen sliding glass doors. We understand that one of the sliders has to be permanent since pocket doors are a thing of the past it seems.

You'll probably need to put some type of jamb inside the block the get the exact opening size and give the door something to screw in to. What does the opening of the block measure?
BTW, we just installed an 8' Andersen Impact Resistant door and really like it. We were told the Jeld-Wen IR doors were only available in Florida.

Aye when I had my house built in Cape Coral, FL they told me they couldnt do pocket doors any longer due to code update for hurricanes, that was in 2003-2004. My friend who built his house the year earlier before the code went into effect had a nice 3 pane sliding door that pocketed, was awsome to take about 10ft of "wall" and open it up.

Went to Home Depot tonight; the measurements I had were within 1/4 of the H & W and was a pre-determined size.

Cost was $2765 for one and $2004 for the other! LOL! LOL! LOL!

May get one now and one later.

That however included Impact Glass, Low E 366 etc.

Now, I was reading somewhere that code states I need to get Low E in the sliders? Is that true? I'm going up to the code office tomorrow to confirm or deny that. That Low E 366 was around $600+ per slider.

Yep. They're not cheap. I think I spent somewhere around 3K for mine. Low E4, Tinted, pre-finished interior, with a screen.
