I am not a DIY for what I am looking for. I have found the Professional forum but cannot post in there as I am not a professional.

How does one go about contacting the people on the Professional forum to inquire about doing work?

Many professionals come here. Post your location in your profile, and continue with a post that outlines what you are looking for. They may answer, they may not. But it will only cost you a little time and the energy to wiggle your fingers across the keyboard to find out.

Thanks for the reply. I did that once but will do it again. I have not added location info to my profile though. I will do that as well.

I have to no avail. Stone masonry does not seem to be a broad field. By looking at the responses of those on the professional forum I am able to gauge their style and quality of work as well as their work ethic.

If you look at their profiles many have links to their company website or other contact info. Some use their real name for a username, that with a location could help.

Well that's quality you don't see that often, internet intuition.
How does one confirm this quality of prose that translates to competancy?

It obviously does not confirm one's competency. Through their knowledge and advice, respect of others, and examples of their work it does help one formulate an educated opinion of their character and warrants contacting them for a person-to-person discussion vs. a blind date.

I find it kind of hard to believe there are no quality Masons in Maryland.
You may have already done this but I’ll mention it anyway. Go to a Mason Supply Warehouse and ask for referrals. Ask them “who’s the best”. It will be the guy that can’t get to for a year.

I am not sure who said "there are no quality masons in Maryland."

I had not thought of your suggestion and will look for a supply warehouse and ask.

I’d visit the warehouse in person, too easy to brush you off on the phone.

Most professional supply houses sell to contractors only.
I’d focus on finding the right contractor for your project first and not on how to “maybe” save a few bucks on materials.
