I'm looking to purchase an outswing french patio door. The active door will be on the left looking at the doors from the outside. It would be on the right if I am looking at it from the inside. One sales associate told me to look where the hinges are and put your back to it. In my case, it would be a right hand outswing. Is this correct? Lowe's seems to do it a little different. This is for a Therma tru door.

That bum to the door trick doesn't work according to my methodology.

I always stand outside of the door to look at and describe the location of the hinges. ie: lh or rh
Door should normally swing inwards.
In this case, the door swings out, so it is a reverse swing.
Therefore, I would describe the door as LHReverse.

Draw a simple diagram, looking down from overhead. Draw a either a single or double line for the wall. Label one side "inside", the other side "outside. Draw the active door swinging out by using a straight line for the door and an arc line for the swing. Mark it active. Draw the other door with the same markings and label it passive. Give it to the salesman and verify they understand what you want.
