Due to my plumbing/insulation/exterior walls I am adding another wall made out of 2x4 in front of my existing 2x6". I plan to build it of two parts and am not sure how to attach the right part at the top because it is under the angled skylights.

The top of each stud should be mitered to match the top plate, which should be secured to the underside of the rafters at an angle. Pretty common situation.

Hi BimmerRacer, in your pic's is a serious problem. You removed about 12' of wall, right? Is there a exterior wall above the room you're in? And above that wall a roof? All bearing on a double 2x10? for a beam. If that is correct, I strongly suggest using a Structural Engineer to figure your beam size, post sizes, footings, bolts (size, spacing, lengths, placement, lag or carriage), and straps for beam rotation,all the particulars I see missing. Even if it's just a roof above, the existing framing is not enough, especially without joist hangers. You are relying on the shear of the nails to hold up the joists (before the joists were on the wall). You are dealing with thousands of pounds here, and we want you to be safe. Happy nail-bending! I don't see anything wrong in the picture besides the fact that the horizontal ceiling joists on the top/right of the picture don't have hangers....They might not be long enough to warrant them. I they're floor joists I agree hangers would be worth adding. I certainly don't see anything that would necessitate a structural engineer's involvement unless a bearing wall was in fact removed.

BimmerRacer's just adding a non-load-bearing wall to accomodate plumbing on the warm side of the insulation from the way I read it.

Hi again, BR. I looked again, closer. Everything was existing, correct? You just cut a new window, insulated, and replaced the ply. floor? The existing built up beam is only carrying the roof above? I figured it was a floor above because it was deck w. ply, and the roof overhang would run into the skylights as their tops run up to the sidewall siding. I've been wrong before, and it won't be the last. Be safe! GBAR

Sorry, I didn't notice anyone replied to this thread. Theres no floor above the new windows on the right wall. That part was covered in another thread. The additional wall was indeed added to accomodate plumbing supply on the exterior wall. I didn't do the mitered joints tho.

Oh, and those joist without hangers span about 12 feet I think. I didn't make any changes to them or around them. I did put in a longer header in the load bearing wall to open up the entrance to the bathroom as it used to have a 24" door.
