I am getting ready to build a 50' long by 16' tall wall across my shop. I will have to hang 2 pieces of 5/8" sheetrock on the shop side per fire code ( there will be new living space on the other side ) and one sheet of drywall on the other. This is a lot of weight and I am thinking I'd like to use steel studs rather than wood but I'd love to hear this groups thoughts before I dive in.

Thanks in advance.

That is what they do here for dividing up industrial shops. I don't know how long you can get studs I have seen walls on top of walls likely because they weren't tall enough.
I think they are usually 2x6 studs and they have a bar that they slide thru the centers to help stiffen the wall.

We did lot's of framing inside with wood but I think code here called for steel divider walls.
