How much dirt for AC condenser?

364 Views 5 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  3onthetree
I attached a picture of the condenser from my house. It is 18" from the wall, then the pad is 3'. Does this mean I need 4.5' of dirt level with the house to add to this new build I'm doing for the pads?

The condenser pad needs to be level.
Distance from the structure is dependent on unit installation guidelines and local code.
It needs to be far enough away to allow the unit to be serviced.
It also needs to be out beyond the drip line of the roof.

Do you not have gutters or eavestroughs?

The unit can run in the rain and water dripping on it won't hurt it. May stain it but not hurt it.
If you are disconnecting the unit ( freon lines and electrical ) and then relocating it you may want to have it installed on brackets attached to the side of the house.

That way if the new ground settles you won't have to worry about it being unlevel and the freon lines getting kinked and damaged. Most HVAC companies can get brackets.

Or you can make them yourself if you can weld.

You also should have more level ground beyond the edge of the pad to avoid washout. It is FL right? Or if you have enough height above grade, use the brackets like Yuri shows.
