Hello,
We're adding stairs to our existing deck. Our township refers to the Prescriptive Residential Wood Deck Construction Guide DCA 6 as sample guidelines. Looking at the guide it seems that we need about 5 stringers for 76" wide stairs with a footing at each stringer. I have a few questions
1) Do we really need 5 footings?
2) What type of footing is acceptable? Can we dig down 36" at frost line or do we dig down 36" plus to go below frost line? and
3) Once we dig down 36 or 36 plus can we pour just 6" or 8" of conrete for the footing and backfill with rock or soil?
Please help! Thanks!
