I'm trying to figure out the best way to widen a door frame from 24" to 30" so I may hang a 28" door. I already have the new door and have removed the old bifold door. The door frame is on a non weight bearing wall so must I remove the old frame all together or is there some alternative I'm unaware of?I'd like to know my options before I punch holes in the wall...

The only difference between the framing required for a door in a load bearing wall and a non-load bearing wall is the necessity of a load bearing header.

remove the whole jamb of the old door.
measure and remove wall board to the new rough opening size.
install the stud and trimmer to the new location.
replace the header board with an appropriate replacement.
fasten and mud wall board as needed.
install new door/jamb.
piece of cake!
