I am trying to remove what I believe is called the strainer of the kitchen sink, but only the top part. My sink is clogged and I want to have a bigger opening for better access with the pipe snake so I would like to remove this part. Below is a picture of the drain and what I am looking to remove is circled in red:

That is part of the strainer, and is not removable separately. Try a couple of large pots of boiling water with some vinegar in them first.
