For the most part that I can see in the pictures (which need help) it appears most of the wood damage is irreparable and needs to be replaced. It is difficult to tell what all the material is made of. Can you clean your lens a little?

These things start out as a patio and then a patio with a roof and then they get close in.
Most time they don't follow and rules code or best practice.
When it is time to repair, it is time to start digging to see how bad it is and whether there is enough structure to work with.
Just changing the trim wood on the outside, maybe if you are really lucky but I would expect to find more damage.

When we had major home renovations done ~ 2 years ago, we had our contractor address some major woodpecker damage on a different exterior wall of that room (the opposite wall). As you suggested, in that case there was a lot he had to replace. What would you recommend as a first step with this side?
Thanks again.
