What are the holes in the vinyl siding? (About two feet up and gray in color by the drier vent.) There are many of them (about 300 for a 2700 sq ft 2 story house, 95 years old) and they are dry rotted. They are solid rubber-ish material but some have poked through. Should I use louvered ones instead? I can't find any at home improvement stores or an internet vendor but I hear people talk about them. The diameter is 1" on white siding. I don't know if it was for insect control or insulation. I want to replace them so that I can clean the siding. Thanks for clearing up my confusion!

Without seeing a picture, I am going to guess they are plugs a blow in insulator used to plug his instalation holes. You said Vinyl siding?????? Are you sure???. Any insulation company, even bad ones, know how to unclip vinyl siding to hide the holes underneath.

No, please help. There are two holes visible to the right of the door frame and one to the left (past the photo of my tired worker and our dog.) The holes that have dry rotted plug covers are gray. I suspect it was winterized with a low-income program before we bought it because when they replaced the windows they replaced all but the one that couldn't be seen from the road. (In other words, poor supervision or implementation.)

Do these look like insulation holes? There are 68 such holes on the front of the house, two above each window, several on the sides and more on the second story.

The inside of the house is getting extensive work and we are not able to replace the siding yet. Can I fix the holes?

That's what I'm seeing....You can get new plugs for the holes but your best bet would be to replace that coarse of siding around the house.

Replacing a piece of vinyl siding is about a 15 min. job and can be done with as little as a flat bar, a pair of snips or a ciruler saw with a plywood blade on backwards and a hammer.
Each piece of siding is only about $7.00.

You still need to plug the holes under the siding.

To be totally funny... the picture you used to illustrate the holes in the siding is rather ... how should I put it... interesting... What was your reason to include a sleeping bum in the picture?
