The half bathroom I am remodeling was constructed of blue board a plaster. The window is flush with the wall studs, and the previous walls terminated at the window (and door) into a metal j-bead.

I'm installing 5/8 drywall. Attached is a picture of the window where the new drywall will go.

How should I cap the drywall that terminates at the window (and door)? I found this 1/2 inch metal j-bead at home depot. I want the edge to be clean and strong. This metal cap doesn't look like it will take mud.

First time doing this. Any help is appreciated.

Brendan

Sorry, I’ll post another picture tomorrow. The thumbnail you shared looks like the original metal that I removed. I haven’t seen anything like that in the big box stores. What is that called?

Attached is a second photo of a window in my bedroom. All the windows and doors in my small bungalow are constructed like this. A metal j-bead where the turquoise boxes are. This is what I'm trying to achieve with my 5/8 drywall.

I'd prefer to use metal over vinyl for protection purposes. I do have some local drywall suppliers, but they don't open until Monday.

Is this type of construction common with drywall?

See if you can find a veneer J or L bead it will make a nice neat finish.
Look for USG # 800-A or 800-b Veneer Bead.
Clarence, the internet is very small apparently. I too live in Charleston SC (James Island specifically). Could you recommend a drywall retailer that would carry more options than Lowe's and HomeDepot? I would have sent you a direct message but I could not figure out how to do that.

Check these places in Charleston.
C K Supply on Dorchester Rd. N. Charleston ask for Sheradan 843-747-5842
Capital Material over by the Railroad station in N. Charleston. 843-554-9070
PML King Street Ext. N. Charleston ask for John this place handles plaster & Stucco supply's but very well may have what you need. 843-744-1516
The above are the places I would get most of my material from tell them that " Hank " gave you this info it will help you out.
If the above people don't have the item that you can purchase in small amounts let me know I may be able to contact some local plaster's that will have some extra in the warehouse. 843-514-1238.
Also if you are doing mudding & taping ask John @ PLM if he has any samples of Master of Plaster that you can try on your drywall project.
