I had an undersized adjustable Lally column replaced. When the "contractor" installed the new one, he cranked it up too high and as a result, the beam is not level at all. This has caused a lot of my tiles on the first floor to crack, nail pops on the 2nd floor and Very creaky wood floors. I want to crank it down so that the beam is level, but can't get it to move. Any hints?

there is a part on the very top of the lally colum just below the plate that allows for a wrench to get on to. i cant remember the correct size but you latch onto there and simply turn it. it may not be budging because of how much tension is on it it may require putting the wrench on first then hitting the wrench with hammer to loosen things up
