The nails could have worked loose over the years. Freeze and thaw cycles can easily work nails loose. I believe the mfg calls for nail spacing at 4 or 6". Can not tell yours from the underside photo.

It can be repaired. Not sure about doing it without destroying the shingle caps though. If it's just the one spot I would probably try to add longer nails in that area. If its all along the ridge, then tear it off and re-do.

I have a roofer stopping by. The vents are up in several places.

I have a few extra shingles, but not enough to do anything. There is writting on the back. Can new shingles be bought from that?

Where are you in upstate NY?

Looks like when the mods moved this thread it was also broke apart.

Regarding the shingles. Should be easy to find a suitable match, even if not able to identify. It gets tricky when you need to weave in new along with old on the roof deck itself. As long as the entire ridge is the same shingle, a slight color change from the roof should not be noticeable.

On the southern border, half way across
