Hello all, Decided to install paver walkway to the house this weekend and was laying out today how much I wanted to dig. I am using the paver base instead of stones etc so all I need is 1/2" sand, 3/4" paver base and 1.75" pavers for a total of 3".

My initial plan was to dig 3" down irrespective and just follow the grade so that the pavers would be flush with the ground and would be easier to manage. Then noticed the walkway leading to the home is about 2" higher than the ground. Is there a way I could have the pavers start flush with the walkway but gradually slope so that they ultimately are level with the ground. I am a novice in this so do not have a way to cut or ever tried.

Attaching an image with rudimentary drawing skills but hopefully it helps. Reason for doing the paver walkway: With our cars parked in the driveway it becomes difficult to walk on the driveway and the grass being wet almost year round this walkway will help.

You can do it anyway you like so long as you can haul in dirt to build it up or haul away dirt to level it. :)

In your case I would start at the existing walk and work down to the other point you are trying to hit.

Please review MFG instructions. I believe you need at least 3" of rock base under a foot traffic only paver install.

Being you already have a measuring tool and have if you have something to compact the fill with as you fill you should be good to go. A compacting tool really doesn't object compacting slopes and your pavers will look just fine on that length of a gradual slope. Go for it and we wanna see pic of your completed DIY project. Did i say compaction is key and it's good exercise?

I have new found respect to landscapers and the daily back breaking work they must do! Me and the wife spent maybe 7 hrs today and got till the paver base laying and the edging around it. Tomorrow it's the pavers and hopefully call the project a done! I though cheated and didn't really compact too much. Hope it doesn't come bite me in the rear anytime soon 🙂

Attached are few photos of the whole process. Hope they pass mild approval 🙂
