I am trying to wire this with the least amount of wire. The junction box is located near the light one side of the room and the switch is located on the other side of the room. I am using a Duplex switch.

Cables are labeld 1, 2, and 3. As you can see for #3, I don't really have a place for the neutral wire to go. Since the vent is located near the switch, I would rather not have to run 2 wires to the switch.

Any suggestions?

You cannot feed the light, have a switched loop in the switch, and also feed the vent fan from the switch. You need to run the vent fan cable to the light.
So I have to run (2) cables from the light to the switch and break off the tab on the switch so each switch is getting fed by different cables, correct?

Would this work in your situation?
Yep, that should work. I don't have any 3 wire cable though. I bought 250 feet of #12 romex so I would rather not spend more money on 3 wire romex. I guess I will have to run a second cable to the switch or relocate the junction box near the switch so the switch will be first in the run.

Thanks for the tips.
