I want to replace the rotting wood on this bench, but how can i stop it from tilting one way or the other? Is there some sort of support i should be using?

Here is a video of it from the back

and front

When you replace the slats make sure the holes for the bolts are a tight fit. That should hold it.
Also I think the one like that my neighbour has also has a rod across the legs about a foot below the seat slats at the top of the leg arch.

If rebuilt a couple of those mainly as off-season 'busy hands' projects. There are dozens of designs some with a variety of braces. As Joed says, new wood and tight bolts will probably do it. You could get some flat steel stock and make a couple of angle braces for under the seat if there is a place to attach them to the cast iron legs.

Mine does have the bolt between the legs.

The wood that came with mine lasted a couple of years. When I replaced it I used 5/4 PT lumber and rabbeted off the ends just enough to slide into the bracket, drilled tight holes and bolted it. That was at least 30 years ago and it is still in use.
