Making a dust box for a saw stand
I am getting set to build a cabinet type stand for my miter saw. The plans are here. http://www.popularwoodworking.com/up.../290/fea39.pdf
I am going to modify them some to allow for use of an outside shop vac instead of the built in one. I know I can plug a hose into the dust port of my saw, but I wonder how the dust shelf of this cabinet works. Shouldn't there be an opening or several in the top of the cabinet to allow sawdust to fall down onto the shelf. (And if I go with the adjustable platform per the plan, shouldn't it have similar openings?) Then my shop vac would also plug into an opening in the back of the dust box. (Actually, I would plug its hose into a pvc pipe that teed into the back of the dust box and the saws dust port. I would add a little inner door so as to turn the dust shelf into a dust box.
Does this make sense?
