If I get the slab down (just the plumbing and chases stubbed-in), SIPs, roof, windows, siding, the complete exterior, no interior walls/plumbing/wiring...dried in...I'll be out of money and I want to leave the shell for a year (to earn more $ to finish)...can I do this with no harm?...thoughts? & thx

There would be no harm but you would like to have things in place for plumbing venting and holes in the house for out door faucets and outlets and light, furnace vents and such. So all that can be done waterproof before siding goes up.

Around here they sometimes cap new basements in the fall with what will
later become the joist/sub floor for the main floor. They also heat the space
(basement) to prevent heaving from freezing under footings. The down
side of this is that they're inadequately ventilated so the joists and under
side of sub floor is often black with mold by the time they get back to
build the house on top of this the next year......sometimes longer.

So, think about ventilation.

Not sure about your climate, ie frost line as mentioned.
Vandalism can be a concern and your insurance carrier may not like open liability, check with them.

Building permits can have a time frame attached.

Personally I would not start that project until I had all the money lined up to finish it, so many things can happen.

Heating it without insulation and a rigid air barrier can be a disaster.

Yes you can. Many people have done it for years.

I have purchased and rehabbed houses that were boarded up or empty for at least that long .

Of all the things mentioned above vandalism and insurance are your biggest concerns. Vacant home insurance is very expensive and usually just for a 3 month term at a time. Construction insurance probably is about the same.

Errant critters would be one more concern.

Add building permit renewal to the potential costs above. Most of them are only good for 6 months.
