I have a relatively new electric hot water tank. Next to it, I have a vent out and capped gas line. I was wondering if anyone has tried, or sees an issue with, running your cold feed to a Tankless water heater. Then plumb the tankless output to the intake on the water heater ? The idea would be that not only would you have a never ending supply of hot water, you would also have a reserve in a power failure. Also, I think it might make sense in Florida to use gas to bring the temp up from 70F to 105F, and then use electric to hold it there. I'd love to hear thoughts ?

IMO, not a good idea. One or the other. There is no need for a "reserve" with a tankless. In a power failure everything goes out, so you won't have an igniter for the tankless unless you have a generator.
