i'm not sure what's going on, but i bet it's simple to fix.

i live in a studio apartment--the hot water/water pipes have started rattling recently. they rattle all the time, without use. all through the night they rattle and keep me up.

upon close inspection, you can feel the pipe coming from the heater (it's warm to the touch so it must be the outlet pipe?)--you can feel it sort of vibrate when the clicking sounds happen. they seem to be on a rhythm, click-a-tee-click, every 3-5 seconds.

the pipes in the kitchen rattle from it, so the whole apartment clickatyclacks every few seconds, like it's running through all the pipework.

i put my ear to the heater tank and found the noise seems to be emmiting from it and i guess reverberating down the pipes...?

what's all this about?

so the pipes grow and shrink at the exact same rate on a 3 second cycle, 24 hours a day, non-stop without any interruptions, 2,900 times a day? and the sound centralizes inside the hot water tank?

i'm afraid i think it might be something a bit more than just expansion. something inside the hot water tank is clicking at the intervals said above...

Is this hat water tank used for hot water of heating.

If it is a water heater what is the temp set at?

Can you post brand and serial number?

i dont know the serial but it's a bradford white brand electric water heater.
it's exclusive to this small apartment, heats nothing else.
i left out before this all is a new problem. it made the occasional normal hot water heater tank noises in the past that were neglegible. but now it's constant and loud.

i dont understand the other queston, but the tank only heats hot water.
