I have our heat pump installed in 2018 with gas furnace backup heat.
The thermostat status is now wait. After five minutes it will be back on and then went back to wait status after a few minutes. What would cause this behavior?

If there is already a thread for this issue, please share.

Thanks.

Sounds like something is interrupting the power supply and sending the thermostat back into it’s time delay mode.
Or it’s right around it’s switchover temp and keeps bouncing between modes. Sun on the outdoor sensor can cause this.

I got it working. The problem, I think, is a critter chewed up the wires outside and a couple wires had ripped insulation. It was working fine until it started to rain. I think the wires got wet and short circuited. I reinsulated the wires and wrapped all together with an electrical tape once dry. It works now. Thanks.

Well it is not yet working. This morning the behavior repeats. The same pattern. The tstat is reading outside temperature in 5, 6 deg range, between 31 and 37 for example. The sun is not out yet. I checked all the wire and they all are connected correctly.
