Bumping this. Bought my wife a Honeywell 9000 WiFi stat for Christmas. Installed today and having issues. 1st it won't fully lock into place on the wall plate. 2nd it seems my fan either isn't running or barely at all. 3rd the t-stat reading is high and fluctuates, meaning it will jump 2or 3 degrees instantly. The old t-stat was a standard Honeywell 4 button programmable, it used batteries so I was able to still see the temp reading on it after uninstalled. The new unit reads 5 degrees higher than old. I already put the old one back up. I'm going try to call honeywell, but according to reviews the one I have is a pro install and honeywell won't help the average Joe with support. I bought it off amazon, might just return it and look for something different.

Wow, my bad. I thought the whole reason for the search function was to search for similar threads to the question you had. He asked the exact question I had. How did I hijack a thread that's from Oct? Seems like a win win for of us that I bumped it.

It's possible the temperature is higher for a while after you install it (the heat from your hands). Give it time to settle out.

The stat shouldn't fluctuate like that at all. In fact there is a bit of damping built into the thermometer section to keep it from bouncing.

It's either fluctuating because it's getting intermittent power..... not properly sitting on the base... maybe bent pins or wires not flattened down enough, or it's defective.

You mentioned the old stat had batteries. Does that mean you ran a new C wire, or was there one already there?

I believe you'll find the search function to be DAMMED if you do and DAMMED if you don't.

Instructions are a little short so try this.

We can read all the searches we want but just don't put our fingers on the keyboard .

I have found with wifi stats that they usually read low for awhile after install (or after the power is turned off) since the wifi radio puts out heat and the stat is calibrated to read properly once fully warmed up. They also usually have a calibrate feature so you can reset if necessary to account for local conditions and variations. Not sure about the Honeywell but the manual should address this function.

You made someone elses thread about you, instead of him.

If the original poster comes back with more questions about his set up. Then it gets real confusing trying to help 2 or even more people if others try and hi jack it.

Search function takes you to threads that may have an answer to your question.

Post a picture of how you mounted the sub-base and how the stat is sitting on it. You'll have to remount it.

The sensor is sometimes exposed to the back of the tstat, or immediately behind a section of plastic. Your fingers will influence it, especially once the plastic starts to heat up from your body heat.

However, I have a feeling that the poor connections that you described is causing all of this. These stats require a significant about of power compared to your old stat and don't like it when it's not consistent. Their internal power circuitry, will have large capacitors. (comparatively) This will let the stat screen to stay on when the connection momentarily losses connection, but the processor and/or comparitors to flip out and do funky things. (screens are dumb power hogs, so don't care as much for poor power quality)

Cheers!

I believe my connections were good, only have a problem getting the unit to fully snap into its wall plate.

Not sure if you're still checking this thread, but I just installed the same thermometer and I'm having the same issue. I took it back and exchanged it, thinking it was a faulty sensor. But the new one is doing the same thing. I'm thinking about getting a cheaper one. Did you ever find out anything on yours?
