Hi,

I'm living in a relatively new home, we took ownership as the 1st owners about a year ago. One thing really bothers me. There is a odor that just won't go away. It smells like wood for lack of a better description.

Is this normal? How long should this last? I know the smell of mold and that isn't it or maybe it's that but in it's infancy. I can open the windows or leave the the blower on to circulate air but in the end it never really makes a lasting difference. Should I be worried?

lol yes, the frame is obviously wood but let me put it this way, i've never been cognizant of this odor in past homes or even new homes i have visited yet every time i walk into mine it hits me right in the face as i walk thru the door. Getting that fresh air feeling inside the home is proving to be difficult.

Has me worried. Dirty ducts maybe? they were cleaned a month before we moved in. Maybe not well enough? Maybe the house is still curing? But why aren't other new homes i have visited contain the same odor? I'm contemplating getting an air quality specialist to visit the home to shed some insight with the right equipment / experience.

Well if you recognize the odor as that of wood then ponder this maybe. I know I too have been able to smell "wet wood" more-so than dry wood. I'm wondering if you have a leak somewhere that is getting the wood structure wet somewhere and that is emitting the odor.

Like I said, it isn't unusual to smell carpet and vinyl flooring and even paint for a long time after installed new, but wood!!!

All kinds of new odors have been introduced to that environment since the wood was new.:yes:

Perhaps i should try to establish a correlation between this odor and rain

i did have a piece of flashing that was missing that lead to a leak in the garage. This was fixed sometime in febuary and the odor did seem to lessen but then it's came back.

I"ll stick this on the one year report due Tuesday and hope for the best. TY

Any place you can see the structure will likely show water stains if it has been getting wet intermittently.

Could also be a water (plumbing) leak somewhere internal that just hasn't found its way through a wall or ceiling yet.
