holes in joists - rules?

rules seem comoonly known for sawn lumber

but for engineered wood, it (IBC) says to look at mfg sepcs.
am i mistaken, or does it look like most LVL mfg's are saying to stay IN the middle 1/3 for the location of holes? this seems opposite of the rule for sawn lumber....

Usually one would be using "LvL" for beams and the general rule for drilling holes in beams is do not drill period end of discussion. The only way you will be allowed to drill a LvL beam is if you have an engineer sign off and stamp the plan.(even if the manufacture allows drilling in certain places its likely your local code enforcement official will raise hel! if they catch it.)
