I just purchased the above compound bevel saw; I chose Hitachi because of my satisfaction with one of their Li ion drills, a 7 1/4 inch power hand saw and most recently a pneumatic brad nailer. User reviews were good.

I am unable to change the bevel angle on this saw! And yes, I did discover that the bevel lock handle is a left-hand thread. The instruction manual is dreadful; a call today (Sunday) to "tech support" asked me for my phone number and my problem, and promised a call-back. Hasn't happened yet, at 6.10 EST. Customer support on the web-site is a joke.

I'm trying to finish baseboard and shoe mold installation on our "family room" with new oak flooring. My manual miter box is inadequate for the job, hence the power saw purchase.

As it now stands I could only cut a bevel at some odd angle. Still no joy. At this moment the saw is a large, expensive paper weight.

Please some help!!

I have the sliding version. But here's a you tube link for your saw. I don't see anything tricky about the bevel.

I apparently haven't made myself clear.

The bevel is set to an angle to "compact" the saw for packaging and shipping. I am unable to release the bevel thus set to bring the cut to a zero degree bevel for usage. The wretched excuse for an instruction manual does not address this problem.

Thank you for the video link; a nice presentation, but it says nothing useful to me. Indeed, there will be nothing tricky about setting the bevel angle once the shipping setup is released.

I just skimmed over the instructions and you are correct, that isn't mentioned but I do see a "locking pin" shown in one picture. I wonder if that's what has to be removed???
The locking pin is used for carrying the saw. It is captive, and is merely pulled out to release the movement vertically of the blade assemble.

I called Hitatchi and they said return it to Lowe's. I did so, then Troy from the tool department came over, removed entirely the bevel lock device, and lo and behold! all was well.

Nice saw once it started to work.
