My 2nd floor unit was not blowing cold air, it was just blowing lukewarm air. The unit is about 5 years old, and we moved in last summer.
This summer season I decided to get a an annual maintenance done on the unit. The contractor said the Freon was almost empty so he got to filling it up. He cleaned the outside fan as well.
While the Freon was being pumped in gradually I noticed cold air blowing from the vents. When he was done, the unit was cooling. But then I noticed this hissing noise coming from the wall. I put my ear to the wall and it sounds like hissing noise almost like gas escaping. Turned the unit off, the noise went away. Turned the unit back on, and first it sounds like water bubbling/gargling then to develops into a hissing noise.
The annoyance that I have is that the noise is so loud, I can hear it through the wall. The contractor checked the attic and double checked the fan outside, nothing out of place.
He said that the hissing noise is normal, and that it's probably being amplified because the little cooper line is touching the wall somewhere.
Is this normal? The unit is cooling, but that hissing noise is just annoying. Do I need to call someone else over?
