You really need a framing book to get the basics understood. There's no way you will get enough detailed information solely from here to do the job.
A hip roof involves a very complex assortment of compound cuts and angles. About the most difficult roof to frame.
What experience do you have in roof framing?

BTW, With a square garage (14x14) you wont have a ridge on top unless you use 2 different slopes. So two of your hip rafters will meet at the peak and the other two will set against the first two. The two that meet will be 3/4" longer since they rest against each other rather than against a 1 1/2" thick ridge board.

Thought I would resurrect this old thread to ask if any of y'all use this calculator? I'm building an outdoor kitchen (more like a screened in 10'x14' rectangular gazebo) and used this calculator for the hip roof design. The ridge and common rafters fit perfectly, but the hip rafters seem to be off by about 1"--1.5" . Is there some gremlin in the program, or am I just missing something somewhere?

UPDATE: I found the problem... I had reprinted the calculation sheet and neglected to properly enter the pitch.; didn't realize 5/12 vs 6/12 would make such a difference(!)

One trick I can offer for the first two rafters on a hip roof which has no ridge is to put a bit of strap connecting the rafters. Then Hold them up until they are stuck together and sink a screw or nail in.
