The title says it all. I want new floors and saw this on sale at Costco.

https://www.costco.com/golden-arowa...-attached-pad-included.product.100472463.html

The link above is the exact flooring they have at Costco. I have visited the site of the manufacturer and it seems this stuff is very good.
Is it better than (DVP) Deluxe Vinyl Plank? That is the question.

If anyone has any advice or any comments on either type floor, I would greatly appreciate it. I want to get started ASAP.

Thanks John

Depends on what you are calling a Deluxe vinyl plank.

We use a deluxe vinyl plank. Southwind Harbor Plank.
That also has a ridged core and 20 mil wear layer. And run us about 2.75 a sq ft
Very happy with he quality.
Cant really say it is any better than Homey Depots Lifeproof. We have not used that. But our scratch test showed it is just as durable. But the Southwind has a much thicker wear layer.

Could even be the same product just with a different name.

All of it comes from the same factories in China. Then different companies import and put their name on it.

This is my problem. So much and so many types. I thought DVP was DVP?
Home Depot had some nice stuff in the same price range.
This HDPC is supposed to be new with a new type locking mechanics.
And it does say waterproof on the box at Costco.

So what is your take? The most expensive? The thickest? Padded?
See what I mean.
Thanks by the way for at least humoring me.

I think anyone of those 3 would be good. Southwind harbor plank, HD lifeproof or the costco.

yes to the padded as most are. Thicker the better. Thicker wear layer should also be better.
Only problem with costco is the new click lock. Of course they will say better. You need to know if it actually is so a risk there. 50% chance it is better or worse. You need a review from someone that has used that compared to others. Otherwise could take longer to install.
Also get a sample of Costco and Lifeproof and do a scratch test. Southwind about same as Lifeproof so can save you that time.

Also I have been wanting to try this one next time. For the price seems like a bargain. And my installer rated it highly and he is use to using the higher priced south wind.

Bottom line is as long as stay to the specs of the one in the link or higher I think you will be happy.

Thank RRH.
The installer I am using said he really liked this HDPC.
But it is very new and there is not much out there about it.
I also ran into a floor guy at Costco. He came to look at it too.
He said it looked great. We pulled out a plank to check it out. Has a very nice pad on the back. Feels like rubber. But overall not thicker than others in the same price range. But it did have a very good feel to it.

I think I have my floor picked out. I have also decided to do the complete house while I'm at it. All installed upstairs in dry locations.
So, today I double check all my measurements.
I have the samples from Lowes, but Costco had no samples for a scratch test.

Oh. I know how to get square ft no problem. Is there any multiplier or formula for closets and doorways? A calculator? I want to be accurate with some extra.

As a general rule I just use sq ft plus 10%.

For your own home and from a not so well known company. I would over buy.

Just in the rare case something gets damaged and you cant still get the product.

But you do have the advantage with a number of rooms. Very worst case you could strip a small bedroom to get extra planks. And just find something close to redo that room.

In this range of LVP I would expect a lifespan of 20 to 30 years.

Not as good as the 1 st gen Laminate floors. But still good and even more waterproof. And at this level you are at the same used in a lot of commercial applications.

I still have original wilsonart laminate in my kitchen from early 90's and still looks brand new.

This was first generation and very pricey at the time. Made of same laminate as kitchen counter tops. And glued and clamped together.

Still for the overall cost a few extra boxes maybe worth it for extra insurance.

Companies always changing colors if you need to add or repair anything much later. Same problem I have with composite decking
