Hello all,

I have several Halogen Track Light Accent Flood lights that were installed in my kitchen before we moved in, and they look great - when they work.

The trouble is, they turn off and on and off and on (when turned on) and then burn out long before they should. Asked around and was told the right light bulbs weren't in there, most likely. So I took a look at the thingy they plugged into and sure enough, it said "250V 100W" in tiny little plastic letters.

FYI - if you search for "35W GU10 Halogen Track Light Accent Flood" you will see the kind of light bulb I am talking about (except not 35w, I guess)

The trouble is, when I went to Lowe's, I couldn't find any 100w bulb, and the customer service rep said they didn't have them - just 60w, 50w, and 35w, I think. I couldn't find anything on amazon or anywhere else online that seemed to match up either.

Is my house wired for light bulbs that no longer exist? Am I just doing it wrong? What is going on???

Please help. I want my kitchen to not seem possessed and to stop having to buy light bulbs way too frequently

Thank you!!!

You should look for a rating on the light fixture instead of the socket; like oso said; the socket is rated for 250v at 100w but the fixture is probably not.
Then once you find it, choose a halogen bulb with an equal wattage or lower. If the fixture says 60w max then get a 60w or smaller.

After an hour do the same bulbs, if left in place, come back on? Meaning it is a thermal cutoff in the fixture that is shutting off the lights instead of bulbs burning out.

Is there vibration in the ceiling namely from walking around on a floor above? This can cause early burnout of incandescent light bulbs.
