Help with toro self propelled 5.5 b & s engine model 20464

I recently bought a used toro mower and it works great, but I am wondering what could cause it to have to pull between 7 to 10 times before it will start. It really gets my arm sore after pulling so many times. I'm a chick so I don't know alot about mowers. Any help will be much appreciated. I have it in neutral and I have the other lever on clutch just like i am supposed to. On my previous mower I could pump the gas button before I started it but this one doesn't have one. Also when it does start, it revs up and down for about 20 sec and then it is fine.

Prime 4 times. Choke. Pull. The first time that it sounds as if it may catch, turn choke off. Pull and Voila'!
what do you mean by prime? Because I can't find that little button that my other lawn mower had to push before I started it.

There should be, somewhere between the gas tank and the Carburetor, the bulb that you are familiar with.

Some mowers have no primer.

Anyhow choke 'til it sounds as if it wants to catch then turn the choke off.
What do you mean by neutral? The throttle lever usuallu gets pushed all the way down (choke position) for starting.

Have you checked the air filter? It may need to be cleaned/replaced.
i mean i have the gear in neutral and yes the air filter is clean.
