Hello,

My name is Jeremy and I am a design student in Denver, CO. My team and I are currently researching/designing an app that could help DIY-ers easily find and submit permit info in their local municipality.

We are looking for data on what the permitting process is like where you are and how we could potentially make it simpler and less of a pain for everyone (govt. and homeowner).

I did the survey. In NY most municipalities issue permits, counties generally issue permits only for county projects.

Jedsdad, I acquire permits in 7 agencies in my local. This includes 2 states, 4 cities and a couple counties. I do all of them online. I don't know how easier it can be for me. I give them the info they want on the form. They calculate the fee and I pay buy CC. I step out of my truck and start work.

For a general contractor or home owner needing a lot of plan review it's probably a whole different game....

Start with the City of Chicago. Your app will either make your head literally explode and the project fizzles, or you'll make a million bucks (with 1/3 going to the aldermen).

I found the ads here to be very disturbing.

One cannot read and focus on the thread with ads playing and popping up.

I am getting very annoyed with this forum for its ads and pictures being not upright.

I will be leaving soon if this continues.

I use firefox with adblock. I tried the ads to support the site but it became impossible. Ads may be workable with phones? I don't know since I don't use a smartphone.

I use Chrome with adblock on my laptop. On my phone I use Opera browser with the built-in adblock. No ad problems. I really dislike enhanced mobile view so can't suggest what to use there.
