I'm trying to see if there is anything I'm missing. I need to run some track lighting fixtures. The room has a T grid drop ceiling with florescent light fixtures. They normally just run flex conduit from light fixture to light fixture.

The easiest thing for me to do would be to tap off one of the light fixtures. Are there any issues with doing it this way? I realize I will not have the ability to dim the track lights, unless someone knows of a product that can allow for it. My other option would be to run a dimmer switch and run wires to each track light.

If the fluorescent lights are 120 volts and not 277/480, you can pigtail off one of the lights, BUT you will have the fluorescents and the tracks operating off the same switch and they won't be dimmable. If you want the tracks to be separate, you will need to switch them separately.

Thanks. That is kind of what I figured. I was looking into an inline remote dimmer switch that you can place in a junction box or a fixture. It looks like I would be able to dim the track lights, but turning the switch off at the wall will cut off all lights. Plus, I would need a separate dimmer for each track light fixture, unless I run them off of each other. I guess I was just trying to save on having to run so much wire.
