Hi there I need help deciding what to do. I have rats at my rental house. the first sign was a rat chilling in a bush right out side the front window and then they heard noises from an inside wall. I put traps in the crawl space and attic but didn’t see any signs of resent activity in those areas. There is an older porch outside the house which the rats have been digging under. and I think they might be accessing a part of the crawlspace that I can’t get to from under the deck. The deck is about two ft high and is sealed all the way around so a human can’t see under there. I made the hole under the porch bigger and placed a trap in it. I caught three rats and then placed wire mesh around the the perimeter of the deck stairs in the spots that looked the most accessible by rat. Then today about a month later they sent me a video of more rats in the bush out side and said there are new holes under the porch but they haven’t heard any more in the walls. They have seen one on the roof though. I’ve walked around the house and the only spot I think they could be getting in is under the porch where I can’t see. My options are to either do mesh around the hole porch or rip the porch out replace with just a paver patio repairing any holes I find in the exterior of the house. Any advice would be much appreciated!

Hello this is a fairly common problem, there are several ways to solve it, you can throw poison to the rats, but the rat will die in a hard-to-reach place, you can not pull it out and it will begin to decompose. Here is a guide to choosing electronic traps for rats, this will save you from possible expenses associated with the elimination of consequences after the death of a rat.
And there are electronic traps that immediately kill "unwanted guests" and those that simply catch them.
Thank you for your attention if my comment was useful.

You can also use Rat-X available at box stores. It contains no poison, so it is second generation friendly. It causes the mice/rats to become unable to take on water, they dehydrate and die, often without the smell associated with death.
