I recently tried to replace my ceiling light but found that it did not work with the new fitting. As the wires were short I had stripped the wires from the original ceiling rose to extend them. Failure with this had me resorting to replacing the original system but it' still not working. i later found that i had two live wires and no neutral. A very basic wiring diagram of the problem is below. how do i connect the 2 together? what do i need?

Open the switch and show us all the wires there. The only thing I am fairly sure about is the green/yellow is the ground.
Also add your location as I think you are in UK which is different from here.

Looks like European wiring colors.

How many terminals are in the
New ceiling rose ?
If you have only two wires
Coming to the rose
And only two terminals
On the rose, then you
Cannot go wrong.
But some roses have
Extra terminals !
