Help, my water heater is scaring me!

Hi all, I need a lot of help. My water heater is terrifying me. Our kitchen floor was really hot in front of the fridge, and when we traced the source, the two copper pipes coming from the top of my gas water heater are burning hot to the touch plus a valve on the side of the heater is burning hot to the touch. There is no smell of gas in the house. I am so scared it is going to explode, and I run a rabbit rescue out of my basement where the water heater and my bunnies are. Can anyone please tell me what is going on or what I have to do? Im so scared!!!!!
