I have a Trane A/C unit on the top of house and I am trying to wire it to a Honeywell basic thermostat. What is the correct procedure (colors to letters etc...)for wiring this unit? Thank you much for your patience and time. I live in phoenix, arizona 85009.

Kind of depends on where the wires are connected at the unit. Not all techs follow the same color code. Since there is no NEC code for it.
which wires went where on the old stat?!

It has been to long time to be honest with you. This is why I am here on the site to get a visual connection or be told exactly "which wire goes to what letter"? From a Trane sysytem to a honeywell from Home Depot. Thank you!
As stated before there is no uniform code for colors to terminals, it all depends on the original installers preference. IN order to find out you get your units electrical low voltage terminal board to find out what colors go to what corresponding terminals and then hook the stat up in the same manner.
