Yes another forum to be a part of , this one seems to be better for DIY and others are better for engineering and materials testing..

I’m not by no means a professional but I do take that approach. Was a metal fabricator for the younger part of my life and transferred back into the army.
There I learned a few things and 20 yrs later I find myself working a home that has a few major issues. I’m a part of other forums and together with this one I should meet my goals.
I look forward to chatting and constructing

Welcome to the forum. Add a nearby big city to your profile so all will know your climate and building practices. Strange but building codes are controlled by local authorities so your region helps us narrow it down.

Welcome to the forums Ed. I do like watching a pro work metal into something beautiful and functional.

Windows on wash,
well you just missed my re-purposing an old wrought iron gate mixed in with some bed frames made of the same material (1x1" SQ tube) to extend my front gate from short to taller. I have a pit bully and when pedestrians would walk by
he would like to stick his head out the small open spaces causing liability risk.

- to make this work, I had to slip a larger 2x2" SQ tube over the top and use some anchoring cement to extend it 18" on both side post
didn't want to remove existing post due to new concrete step and the 2" fit nicely over some existing old pipe post.

Being a metal fabricator for a substantial amount of time paired up with Army experience and some high school mechanic electives has paired up nicely, I can tile and I'm set up for carpentry but have a few questions when it comes to process and materials.

extend the gate by piecing together parts and adding some expanded metal, it was a beginners project but turned out nice, I'll come back in and add a few pictures in a few hours of some completed projects..
