i have bought my first house, a fixer upper of course. Have put new siding and windows in. I put 2 inch of foam on the out side, but in only comes down to the beam the house sits on and then on the foundation. So my beam is not insulated on the outside...but is sprayed in the basement all around the main beam....my question is i want to insulate on the outside. How far should i spray down onto the basement were as it is exposed and the cold air is going up behind my 2 inch foam...or has anyone have any ideas...? any help would be greatly helpful. I am from Canada New Brunswick.....Mickey

The beam is referred to as a Rim Joist or Ring joist. Generally speaking your siding would cover that area all around the house.
I don't see much external insulation around here. Aside from super insulated new construction like basement walls with foam wrapping during foundation stage the normal retrofit would be to seal the rim joist internally and insulate the basement walls from the inside and it seems you have started that.
You might want to check to see if breathing space or expansion space is required for your siding application, then post more info....not sure since I have stucco and brick.
Is the siding vinyl or aluminium? Did the joints in the foam get sealed before you put on siding and what type of foam did you use behind, ie what brand and r value

Inside my basement was all sprayed on the joist beam....my walls of my house are double boarded sprayed with foam in some places and sawdust the rest....thats why i put 2inch starfoam insulation all around the outside and R value is 10. When i put Vinel siding on it came to the joist beam...but not covered. 2 sides of my house has, but will be removed here when i find out what to do...cement walk way around it..that why we stopped there with the siding and insulation....my beam is down below the cement which is why i stopped...but now has to be fixxed, dig it out i guess..I'm going to spray the joist beam all around the house. How far should i go down onto the fountion. 1 foot, 2feet...ect...i'm not much of a carpenter...its kinda hard to explain...
