When i moved into my new house 5 years ago, I ripped out the wooden fire place from the living room. however, I now wish to install a small log burner. Anyone know what I need to do to the existing chimney to connect my log burner to it?

Get your chimney inspected by a reputable chimney company. Check with your local building inspector about regulations. Talk to your insurance company about their requirements. When I put in my wood stove (insert in the old fireplace), I had to get a stainless steel insert liner installed in the existing chimney flue. This was a requirement of my town and my insurance company. Different location, different rules.
