Hi all -

I recently purchased a new house and new to heat pumps. I need to replace 2 Thermostats in the house because they used Vivent security, which included thermostats.

After purchasing a new 7-day programmable thermostat, the instructions are not very helpful and/or it's warning me it might not be a DIY.

Old/Existing wiring:
Wire color Terminal
Blue C
Orange O
White W2
Yellow Y
Red RH
Green G
Terminals not used: B, W, Y2, RC, A

New Thermostat: (what makes sense)
Wire color Terminal
Orange O/B
Yellow Y
Green G

Available terminals: W, RC, R

Questions:
Red wire go into the 'R' terminal?

Which leaves the White and Blue wires.
Thermostat instructions stat "If your existing thermostat has a C wire, it should be wrapped with electrical tape and not connected"

Also, "if your existing thermostat has a W2 wire, stop now and contact a qualified HVAC techinician"

I'm beginning to think maybe the new thermostat does not support my heat pump, but I don't even know if my heat pumps are single or dual stage.

Any suggestions? I have photos of the wiring, but didn't see a place to upload.

The thermostat you bought doesn't appear to to support a heatpump with aux heat which is what you have. only hp without.

W2 is your aux heat.

you have to read the packaging carefully and get the right one.

example:

usually r and rc have a jumper and it goes to either.
