My outside condenser fan (heat pump) is not working, but it does spin when I turn it by hand. I suspect the capacitor is bad (it is a dual capacitor). If I attempt to replace the capacitor, do I need to take any electrical precautions, except for turning off the breaker? Will the capacitor discharge when I handle it?

it might.... wear gloves...or discharge it with a screw driver...... :thumbup:

So, you're saying I should short the terminals with a screwdriver? or ground the terminals to the can with a screwdriver?

Capacitor - Wrapup

Thanks for all the help with my capacitor.
Ordered a replacement capacitor, online, for my Trane Heat Pump.
installed it in 10 minutes;

works like a champ!
