I have unfinished oak stair treads however I'm not quite sure how to install them. I have seen some people say to screw them an others have said to glue. Any suggestions?

I use liquid nails and a 15 gage finish nailer.

I agree with fun. We use 15 gauge nails and some pl400 construction adhesive.

Is is better to buy unfinished treads & finish them yourself? Or if you're not too picky about stain, are the finished ones as good or better than you can finish them yourself? Are they worth the $20 premium? Do the prefinished wear better?

The trouble with prefinished? There are a lot of cuts to be made---and nail holes---and a matching riser----so there is a good chance that the prefinished will have some cut and patch marks to hide.

Finishing a staircase is a lot of work---if you can avoid the problem of hiding all cuts then,consider it---I have always used raw wood and finished after installing----
