Hi folks -

Any advice on how to do hardwood on stairs? Could I install the normal planks for the tread and use nosing or do I need to buy the one-piece solid wood treads from the local flooring shop. I know the second option gets pretty pricey so I'd like to make the planks work if that's doable.

The other dilemma is the flooring I'm putting in will have a visible edge since the upstairs is part of a split level. Should I just use stair nosing around the exposed edges on the flooring. I did a quick drawing attached if that helps....although I mean to say the wall is on the LEFT as you look at the drawing.

Thanks much for any input!

First off...great pic. You rock!

You could go either way...planks or full pieces.

If you have railing then be carefull. The floor cannot be pinched by screwing the railing thru the lam and subfloor and the stability will be poor if you only screw thru the lam.
