House just purchased, and I think the new hardwood floor was installed literally months before it went on market. Perhaps a silly justification, but I don't feel "right" pulling out a floor that is only a few months old; but my understanding is that perhaps it was not done in the most sound manner. The floor was installed parallel to the joists. Joists are 2x6 and set 16" apart, and there is 5/8" plywood over them, followed by 3/4" hardwood. There is a full basement underneath. Would there be a way to increase reinforcement from basement, rather than tear the new floor out? Squeaking is not present (yet), but I do sense a slight bounce or just altogether not "solid" feel when I walk on it. Would I have to sister joists, or is there something less involved I can do?

Is your entire floor running parallel to the floor joists? Do some of your joists run in opposite directions? It is possible that a installer made a best fit decision and ran it.
Still, I would not tear it up. But install cross blocking every 16" between the existing joist in high traffic areas.

Honestly, I doubt if it will be an issue at all---while 5/8" ply is not the ideal 3/4" ---the subfloor will support that hardwood just fine with the strips parallel to the joists.

I tend to agree with Mike. But if you really think it needs to be re-inforced, cross blocking would do more for you than just sistering joists. Now if you do both you will be able to square dance on it!
